چکیده
Dinosaur fossils from the latest Cretaceous (Campanian–Maastrichtian) of Africa and Arabian Peninsula are rare. Most discoveries to date have consisted limited that precluded detailed phylogenetic paleobiogeographic interpretations. Fortunately, recent such as informative Egyptian titanosaurian sauropod dinosaur Mansourasaurus shahinae beginning address these long-standing issues. Here we describe an associated partial postcranial skeleton a new taxon Upper (Campanian) Quseir Formation Kharga Oasis, Western Desert Egypt. Consisting five dorsal vertebrae 12 appendicular elements, Igai semkhu gen. et sp. nov. constitutes one most dinosaurs yet recovered Afro-Arabia. The relatively gracile limb bones differences in coracoid metatarsal I preclude referral specimen Mansourasaurus. Both model-based Bayesian tip-dating parsimony-based analyses support affinities with other Late Afro-Eurasian titanosaurs (e.g., Mansourasaurus, Lirainosaurus astibiae, Opisthocoelicaudia skarzynskii), conclusion supported by posterior lack postzygodiapophyseal lamina, for example. strengthens hypothesis northern Eurasia shared closely related terrestrial tetrapod faunas at end further differentiates this fauna penecontemporaneous assemblages elsewhere Africa, Galula Tanzania, exhibit more traditional Gondwanan assemblages. At present, specific signal appears vary between different groups, suggesting Afro-Arabian biotas may experienced evolutionary histories were complex than previously appreciated.

Whereas titanosaurians represent the most diverse and cosmopolitan clade of Cretaceous sauropod dinosaurs, they remain rare components of Cretaceous African faunas. Currently recognized continental African titanosaurians include Aegyptosaurus baharijensis and Paralititan stromeri from early Upper Cretaceous deposits near Bahariya Oasis, Egypt, and Malawisaurus dixeyi and Karongasaurus gittelman...
متن کاملA revision of the Upper Cretaceous lepidosirenid lungfishes from the Quseir Formation, Western Desert, central Egypt
We evaluate new lungfish remains from the Upper Cretaceous Quseir Formation in the Western Dessert of southern Egypt. Taxa include Lavocatodus protopteroides, L. humei, L. giganteus, and Protopterus nigeriensis. We treat Lavocatodus as members of Lepidosirenidae based on the presence of a well-defined medial articular surface, in the absence of a symphyseal surface of corresponding prearticular...
متن کاملA New Giant Titanosauria (Dinosauria: Sauropoda) from the Late Cretaceous Bauru Group, Brazil
Titanosaurian dinosaurs include some of the largest land-living animals that ever existed, and most were discovered in Cretaceous deposits of Argentina. Here we describe the first Brazilian gigantic titanosaur, Austroposeidon magnificus gen. et sp. nov., from the Late Cretaceous Presidente Prudente Formation (Bauru Group, Paraná Basin), São Paulo State, southeast Brazil. The size of this animal...
متن کاملA new species of Gryposaurus (Dinosauria: Hadrosauridae) from the late Campanian Kaiparowits Formation, southern Utah, USA
A new species of the hadrosaurine hadrosaurid Gryposaurus was discovered in the late Campanian Kaiparowits Formation of southern Utah. Gryposaurus monumentensis, sp. nov. is distinguished from other Gryposaurus species by possessing a more robust skull, enlarged clover-shaped prongs on the predentary oral margin, an anteroposteriorly narrow infratemporal fenestra, and other autapomorphies plaus...
متن کاملA Re-Evaluation of the Chasmosaurine Ceratopsid Genus Chasmosaurus (Dinosauria: Ornithischia) from the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) Dinosaur Park Formation of Western Canada
BACKGROUND The chasmosaurine ceratopsid Chasmosaurus is known from the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) Dinosaur Park Formation of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Two valid species, Chasmosaurus belli and C. russelli, have been diagnosed by differences in cranial ornamentation. Their validity has been supported, in part, by the reported stratigraphic segregation of chasmosaurines in the Dinosaur...
